ASTM C650 Standard Test Method for Determining Resistance to Chemical Substances

This test method covers a procedure to determine whether and to what extent ceramic tiles and glass tiles are affected by prolonged exposure to household or cleaning chemicals, as well as other more severe conditions.

The test specimens are thoroughly dried in an oven and then allowed to cool to room temperature. Add 20 mL of each test solution to the test tubes and place on the tile.

The assembly is then inverted so that the test tube sits on the tile. The assembly is left undisturbed for 24 hours and then the test tubes are removed. Each tile is thoroughly rinsed under running water for 10 minutes to remove any remaining solution, then oven dried and cooled to room temperature.

The tile samples are then visually inspected for differences in appearance. A few lines are drawn with HB grade pencil on the samples that have passed the visual inspection and the pencil marks are wiped with a damp cloth. If pencil lines are removed from the treated surface, the tile sample will not be "affected".
