This test method covers determining the temperature at which liquids and solids will spontaneously ignite. These materials must ignite without the application of sparks or flames in a high-pressure oxygen-enriched environment.
This test method is designed for use at pressures of 2,1 to 20,7 MPa (300 to 3000 psi). The pressure used in the description of the method is 10,3 MPa (1500 psi). The test method as described is for liquids or solids with an ignition temperature in the range of 60 to 425°C (140 to 800°F).
This test method is for high pressure pure oxygen. The test method can be used in atmospheres between 0,5% and 100% oxygen.
An apparatus conforming to these requirements is disclosed. This test method is applicable to materials with higher pressures and higher ignition temperatures. If more stringent requirements than those described or other oxidizers are required, care should be taken when selecting an alternative safe apparatus that can withstand the conditions.
