ASTM D1218 Standard Test Method for Refractive Index and Refractive Distribution of Hydrocarbon Fluids

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ASTM D1218 standard. This test method covers the measurement of the refractive index of clear and light-colored hydrocarbons in liquid, accurate to four decimal places or better.

The test method may be suitable for measuring the refractive indices of liquids above 1.5000 and at temperatures both below 20 °C and above 30 °C; however, test method precision may not be valid. Verification of the accuracy of such measurements will depend on the availability of reliable, certified reference standards that demonstrate the performance of the instrument used under certain measuring conditions.

The test method may not be applicable to strongly colored liquids or liquids that have bubble points very close to the test temperature and where a reading cannot be obtained before significant degradation occurs. Liquid color should be limited to ASTM Color or lighter color as determined by Test Method D1500.
