This standard covers the determination of water in volatile solvents and chemical intermediates used in paints, varnishes, lacquers and related products. It is mainly based on the reduction of iodine with sulfur dioxide in the presence of water.
This standard is not applicable in the presence of mercaptans, peroxides, or appreciable amounts of aldehydes or amines. Values stated in SI units should be accepted as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
Volatile solvents are used in a variety of chemical processes that can be affected by water. Therefore, this standard provides a test procedure to evaluate conformity to a specification.
