ASTM B819 Medical Gas Systems - Standard Test for Seamless Copper Tubing

This standard specifies requirements for two wall thickness charts of specially cleaned, straight lengths of seamless copper tubing, designated Types K and L, suitable for medical gas systems.

The product will be manufactured by hot working and cold working to the final size required to convert the billet into tubular form. Seamless copper pipe for medical gas systems will be laid in H58 (Extended General Purpose) temper. To determine the tensile strength and hardness of the pipe, tensile test and Rockwell hardness test will be performed respectively. Eddy current testing, which is a non-destructive test, will also be performed.

Cylinders used for medical gas systems should be cleaned by any of the following recommended methods:

• alkaline washing;
• Steam solvent washing;
• Washing with steam detergent;
• Steam wash;
• Steam degreasing.
