This test method covers a procedure for determining the water vapor transmission rate of non-woven and plastic barrier materials ranging from 500 to 100.000 g/m² per day. The method is applicable to films, barriers composed of single or multilayer synthetic or natural polymers, nonwoven fabric and nonwoven fabrics coated with films up to 3 mm (0,1 inch) thick.
The purpose of this test method is to obtain values for the WVTR of barrier materials. WVTR is an important property of materials and may be related to shelf life. This test method allows the determination of water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) and water vapor permeability.
