ASTM E424 Standard Test Methods for Solar Transmittance and Reflection (Terrestrial) of Sheet Materials

Method A using a spectrophotometer applies to both transmittance and reflectance and is the referee method. Method B is valid for transmittance measurement using only a pyranometer in an enclosure and the sun as the energy source.

The size of samples for Method A is limited by the geometry of the spectrophotometer, while Method B requires a 0,61 m2 (2 ft2) sample. For materials reviewed by the drafting task group, both test methods yield essentially equivalent results.
