The pH of carbon black is often used in this industry to indicate the relative acidity or alkalinity of carbon black and will be used in the rest of these test methods to describe this property. Note 2-Test Method A and Test Method B do not always give the same results.

Key properties of carbon black: the original particle size, structure and surface groups of carbon black will have a great influence on the dispersion. Normally, carbon black has small original particle size, low structure and low volatile content.

The darker the carbon black, the higher its acidity, with a pH between 2.5 and 4.5, and the higher its adsorption capacity. The pH of ordinary carbon black is almost neutral, so its adsorption capacity is not obvious. Since the adsorption capacity of carbon black has a special effect on the drying properties of the coating, the drying rate of the coating film is generally reduced due to the adsorption of the dryer in the paint.

When the PH value of carbon black is below 4, the higher the acidity, the greater the adsorption capacity of the desiccant, and the more pronounced the effect on the anti-drying performance.
