Generally, test method D882 or test method D638 replaces this test method for general use. The very small Type V sample in test method D638 is the recommended sample when limited material is available.
This test method covers the determination of the comparative tensile strength and elongation properties of plastics in the form of standard microtension test specimens when tested under defined conditions of pretreatment, temperature, humidity and testing machine speed.
The data obtained by this test method are relevant and suitable for use in engineering design. Tensile properties provide useful data for plastic engineering design purposes. However, due to the high sensitivity of many plastics to strain rate and environmental conditions, the data obtained with this test method cannot be considered valid for applications involving load time scales or environments very different from this test method.
