ASTM C1274 Test for Enhanced Ceramic Specific Surface Area by Physical Adsorption

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ASTM C1274 testing. This standard covers the determination of the surface area of advanced ceramic materials (in solid form) based on multilayer physiosorption of gas according to the Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) method and based on IUPAC.

ASTM C1274 Test for Enhanced Ceramic Specific Surface Area by Physical Adsorption

This test method is used for amorphous and crystalline silicas, TiO02, kaolin, silicon nitride, silicon carbide, zirconium oxide, etc. Provides specific sample degassing procedures for selected common ceramic materials, including The multi-point BET (1) equation, along with the single-point approximation of the BET equation, is the basis of all calculations. This test method is suitable for measuring the surface area of advanced ceramic powders up to at least 0,05 m2 (if krypton at 77,35 K is used as an adsorptive in addition to nitrogen).

This test method does not include all available procedures suitable for degassing advanced ceramic materials. However, it provides a comprehensive summary of the procedures recommended in the literature for selected ceramic material types. The investigator will determine the appropriateness of the listed procedures.

Values stated in SI units should be accepted as standard. Specify all numerical values in SI units, unless specific instrumentation software reports surface area using alternative units. In this case, provide both reported and equivalent SI units in the final written report. It is widely accepted to report the (specific) surface area of solids in m 2 /g, and as customary (in physical adsorption and related fields) and as a convention many tools (as well as certificates of reference material) report the surface area in SI units (m 2 kg m 1 g –2 instead of –1 ).

This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.
