ASTM D2121 Standard Test Methods for Polymer Content of Styrene Monomer

These test methods cover the determination of the polymer content of the styrene monomer. It should be noted, however, that dimers and trimers are not measured with these test methods.

Test Method A, based on the use of a spectrophotometer or photometer, is for the quantitative determination of the polymer content of styrene monomer at concentrations up to 15 mg/kg. Samples containing more than 15 mg/kg of polymer should be diluted appropriately before measurement.

Test Method B is a rapid visual procedure intended to approximate the maximum concentration of 1,0% by mass of polymer. Samples with a polymer content of 1,0% by mass or more should be suitably diluted prior to measurement.

When determining conformity of test results to applicable specifications using this method, results will be rounded according to the rounding method in Application E29.

Values ​​stated in SI units will be accepted as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
