The scope of ASTM D6633 is to determine the basic functional stability of a mechanical pump dispenser with a product. Mechanical pump dispensers (spray or flow type) are tested at accelerated usage heights.
Appropriate apparatuses and test samples must be taken to start the ASTM D6633 test. These apparatus are as follows:
ASTM D6633 testIt starts with the endurance test of each mechanical pump distributor up to strokes. Then test the output per stroke and make sure there are no obstacles. All test samples should be placed in their specified media (indicated by labels).
They should be placed in a certain location, except trigger sprayers. All of them must be stored in place with any protective device and locking features in locked position. Except for trigger sprayers, all test samples should be removed from their medium three (4) times a week for four (3) weeks.
This is a total of twelve (12) test days. Trigger sprayers should be removed from their environment for a total of seven (12) test days, every two (2) weeks for twelve (7) weeks. Test samples should be removed before the actual evaluations with sufficient time to stabilize their temperature to the ambient temperature, which usually takes 4 to 6 hours.
Leakage - If there is a high degree of leakage, the product present in the mechanical pump dispenser or container of the sample in question should not have too many visible leaks. Retention of the primary mechanical pump dispenser should be stroked to determine if it has lost any primes. If it has lost the prime and cannot be reprimed, testing of that sample should not be continued.
Occlusion - the openness of the dispenser must be visually inspected for the presence of the product (it may be in a dry state). If the dispenser is obstructed to impede performance, try to clear the obstruction. If its removal does not solve the performance problem, the test of that sample should be terminated.
Output per stroke - The output per stroke of each mechanical pump dispenser must be determined.
Spray Quality - spray quality should be observed for any leaks.
At the end of the test, a comprehensive report is written in accordance with the instructions of ASTM D6633. The report will contain specific details about the test parameters. In addition, it will be completed with all information regarding the stopped test samples (if any).
