This standard covers the determination of the comparative apparent tensile strength of most plastic products using a split disc or ring segment test fixture when tested under defined conditions of pretreatment, temperature, humidity, and testing machine speed.
This standard is applicable to reinforced thermosetting resin pipe regardless of the manufacturing method. This test method can also be applied to extruded and molded thermoplastic pipes.
Procedure A is used for reinforced thermoset resin tubing; Procedure B is used for any size thermoplastic pipe; Procedure C is used for thermoplastic tubing with a nominal diameter of 4 1/2 inches (110 mm) and larger. Procedure D is used for polyethylene tubing with a nominal diameter of 14 inches (350 mm) and greater, and preferably 1 inch (25 mm) of wall thickness and greater. Procedure E is used for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe with a nominal diameter of 14 inches (350 mm) and greater and a wall thickness of 0,5 inches (12,7 mm).
