It focuses specifically on the measurement of the bidirectional scattering distribution function (BSDF).
BSDF is a convenient and accepted way of expressing optical scattering levels for many purposes. It is often called the bidirectional reflection dispersion function (BRDF) when considering reflective scattering, or the bidirectional transmittance dispersion function (BTDF) when considering transmissive scattering.
BSDF is a basic description of a sample's appearance, and many other appearance properties (such as brightness, haze, and color) can be represented in terms of integrals of BSDF over certain geometric and spectral conditions.
This application also provides alternative ways to present angle-resolved optical scattering results, including directional reflectance factor, directional transmission factor, and differential scattering function.
This application does not provide a method for estimating data from one wavelength, scattering geometry, sample position, or polarization to any other wavelength, scattering geometry, sample position, or polarization. The user should make measurements at wavelengths, scattering geometries, sample positions and polarizations relevant to his application.
