Three applications, A, B and C, have been developed based on component geometry to cover a wide variety of configurations. These applications establish guidelines to be used in the preparation of detailed procedures for sampling specific components. These test fluids may be rinsing, rinsing, packaging, end-use operating or suitable substitutes for end-use operating fluids.
Substitute fluids are recommended instead of end-product fluids for pre-assembly cleaning determinations on components using hazardous end-product fluids. After sampling, the reserve fluid should be completely removed from the test piece, paying special attention to the possibility of fluid entrapment.
Cleanliness of assemblies with or without moving parts can be determined during testing; however, movement of internal component parts during testing will create unknown amounts of contamination from wear. Application B covers configurations that require dynamic operation to obtain a sample. The app does not distinguish between settled particles and wear particles.
