ASTM D2247 Standard Practice for Testing the Water Resistance of Coatings at XNUMX Percent Relative Humidity

This standard covers the basic principles and operating procedures for testing the water resistance of coatings by exposing the coated samples in an atmosphere maintained at 100% relative humidity to form condensation on all surfaces of the test samples.

This standard uses the technique of creating a slight temperature difference within the exposure area to form condensation on the coated samples. As the warmer saturated air passes through the colder samples, water accumulates on the samples in the form of condensation.

This standard places the entire sample in the exposure area and allows condensation to form on all surfaces. This makes this app suitable for flat panels as well as large or 3D objects. This application differs from other methods in which condensation occurs only on the faceplate surface while outside the exposure area of ​​the rear surface. Other tests may also leave water droplets on the surface, but where the source is not from condensation (eg water spray).

This standard is limited to methods for obtaining, measuring and controlling conditions and procedures for tests performed at 100% relative humidity. It does not specify sample preparation or evaluation of results.
