Published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the ASTM D229 standard covers procedures for testing solid electrical insulation normally produced in flat sheet or sheet form. They are often used as terminal boards, spacers, voltage barriers and circuit boards.
Some test methods in this standard are similar to those found in IEC 60893-2, applicable to rigid industrial laminated boards based on thermosetting resins for electrical purposes. Test Methods D619 or Technical D710 application to vulcanized fiber tests are used.
This standard measures and describes the reaction of materials, products or assemblies to heat and flame under controlled conditions, but does not cover all factors necessary for a stand-alone fire hazard or fire risk assessment of materials, products or assemblies under actual fire. Fire testing is inherently dangerous. Adequate safety precautions will be taken for personnel and property while these tests are carried out.
Values stated in inch-pound units should be considered standard. Values in parentheses are mathematical conversions to non-standard SI units, provided for informational purposes only.
Testing services are also provided by our organization within the framework of laboratory testing services, within the scope of the ASTM D229 test standard for rigid board and plate materials used for electrical insulation.
