EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ASTM D3525 standard. This test method describes a gas chromatographic technique for determining the amount of gasoline fuel dilution in used lubricating oils resulting from their use in gasoline engines.
This test method is limited to gas chromatographs housing large diameter (0,53 mm) capillary columns and equipped with flame ionization detectors (FIDs) and temperature programmable furnaces.
There is no limit to the fuel dilution concentration range that can be determined by this method, but the precision statements apply only to the gasoline concentration range of 0,5% to 20,3%. The 0,5% gasoline fuel dilution reporting limit is also included in the method.
Lubricating fluids recovered from engine crankcases have undergone changes due to heating, evaporation, shearing, oxidation and other reactions, and as a result, the chromatographic profiles of gasoline diluents and engine oils often differ significantly from their original models. Accordingly, caution is recommended when comparing quantitative determinations using new verses or in-service materials used.
