ASTM D4629 Standard Test Method for Trace Nitrogen in Liquid Hydrocarbons with Syringe Inlet Oxidative Combustion and Chemiluminescence Detection

This test method involves the determination of trace total nitrogen naturally present in liquid hydrocarbons boiling in the range of about 50°C to 400°C at room temperature and their viscosity from about 0,2 cSt to 10 cSt (mm 2/s).

This test method applies to naphthas, distillates and oils containing 0,3 mg/kg to 100 mg/kg of total nitrogen. For liquid hydrocarbons containing more than 100 mg/kg of total nitrogen, test method D5762 may be more appropriate.

This test method has been successfully applied to sample types outside the scope range during interlaboratory studies by diluting the sample in an appropriate solvent to bring the total nitrogen concentration and viscosity to the range covered by the test method.
