EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ASTM D4684 standard. This test method covers the measurement of the yield stress and viscosity of engine oils after cooling to the final test temperature between –45°C and –10°C for over 40 hours at controlled speeds.
This test method includes two procedures; Procedure A includes various equipment and procedural changes from test method D4684–02 that have been shown to improve the accuracy of the test, while Procedure B is unchanged from test method D4684–02.
In addition, Procedure A applies to devices that use either thermoelectric cooling technology or recently produced direct cooling technology for device temperature control. Procedure B may use the same instruments used in Procedure A or cooled with methanol circulation.
This test method applies to unused oils, sometimes called fresh oils, designed for both light-duty and heavy-duty engine applications. It has also been shown to be suitable for used diesel and gasoline engine oils. Applicability to petroleum products other than motor oils has not been determined.
Values stated in SI units should be accepted as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
