This application describes procedures for performing inspections of the conditions of various coatings on operating Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system components.
Periodic inspections are required to evaluate lining performance, identify existing damage potential issues, and plan scheduled maintenance. The frequency of these inspections may decrease or increase over time depending on primer performance.
Inspection should include visual inspection, photographic inspection, mapping of potential problem areas, specific destructive or non-destructive inspection and extraction of representative samples (if necessary) for analysis.
Temperature can affect the observed or tested primer parameters such as crack width, hardness and adhesion. During the inspection, the temperature of the coating surface and the indoor and outdoor temperatures of the component should be measured and recorded.
