This test method does not provide thickness values for geosynthetics under varying normal compressive stresses. This test method determines the nominal thickness, not necessarily the minimum thickness.

The thickness of some geosynthetics can vary significantly with the applied normal load. The specific pressures and surfaces to which they are applied are specified in this method to ensure that all results are comparable.
This test method can be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of geosynthetics for which this method is applicable. The user should be aware that the compressibility of some materials, rebound properties and other phenomena will affect the thickness of some geosynthetics following collection, transportation and storage times.
