ASTM D2013 Standard Practice for Preparation of Coal Samples for Analysis

This application 2 covers the reduction and division of gross or split samples and the preparation of composite samples including separate portions for laboratory analysis.

Reduction and separation procedures are foreseen for coals belonging to the following groups: Group A includes cleaned coals of all sizes. Group B includes all other coals. Unknown coals will be evaluated under Group B.

Group A allows holding of smaller weight laboratory samples than Group B. These lower weights may be used if indicated for certain coals to give a sample preparation and analysis variance using A1.2 procedures. not more than 20% of the total analysis variance.

Values ​​stated in SI units or inch-pound units will be considered standard separately. The values ​​specified in each system may not be exactly equivalent; therefore, each system should be used independently of the other.
