ASTM F1882 Standard Test for Residential Basketball Systems

The purpose of this standard is to reduce the potential hazards associated with the installation and use of residential basketball systems. This standard will only apply to products manufactured twelve months after the publication of this specification. This standard does not cover product performance or quality other than those related to safety.

This standard is not intended to apply to:

• Equipment intended for use in public gathering places, such as but not limited to schools, parks, public and private recreational facilities;
• Individual components such as rims, backs, poles, portable base systems, nets, or other components not sold as a complete home basketball system as defined in this specification;
• Any residential basketball system that is mounted on any structure or surface other than that purchased as part of a complete residential basketball system. Examples include, but are not limited to, roof mounting, wall mounting, or any locally or self-made components;
• Any basketball equipment that does not use an 18-inch full-size hoop. (45,72 cm) diameter or working heights from the playing surface to the bottom of the backboard are designed to be less than 6 ft 6 in (1,98 m).
