EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ASTM D5587 standard. This test method involves measuring the tear strength of textile fabrics by the trapezoidal procedure using a record constant-elongation type (CRE) tensile testing machine.
The CRE type tensile tester has become the tester of choice for determining trapezoidal tear strength. It is recognized that some constant velocity type (CRT) tensile testing machines continue to be used. As a result, these testers can be used upon agreement between the buyer and supplier.
This test method applies to most fabrics, including woven fabrics, airbag fabrics, blankets, pile fabrics, knitted fabrics, layered fabrics, pile fabrics, and non-woven fabrics. The fabrics may be untreated, substantially sized, coated, resin-treated or otherwise processed.
The tear strength measured in this test method requires that tearing be initiated prior to testing. The reported value obtained is not directly related to the force required to initiate or initiate the tear.
