Abrasion resistance is measured by moving a test piece across the surface of an abrasive plate mounted on a rotating drum and is expressed as the volume loss in cubic millimeters or the wear resistance index in percent.
For volume loss, a smaller number indicates better wear resistance, while a smaller number for the wear resistance index indicates poorer wear resistance.
Test results obtained with this test method should not be assumed to represent the wear behavior of rubber products experienced in actual service.
This test method measures the uniformity of wear on tires under abrasive conditions. This accelerated test can be used to evaluate abrasion resistance in a variety of rubbers, but abrasive wear conditions vary widely and the actual performance of rubber products during performance cycles cannot always be predicted.
