ASTM D1193 Standard Specification for Reactive Water

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ASTM D1193 testing. This specification explains the characteristics of the waters that are approved for use with the standards falling under the jurisdiction of ASTM.

ASTM D1193 Standard Specification for Reactive Water

Four types of water are specified, with three additional grades applicable to the four types. Class specifications are specifically for contaminants of microbiological origin.

Type I reagent water will be prepared by distillation or other equal treatment, followed by polishing with a mixed bed of ion exchange material and a 0,2 µm membrane filter. The feed water to the final polishing stage should have a maximum conductivity of 298 µS/cm at 25K (20°C). Type I reactive water may be produced by alternative technologies as long as appropriate component specifications are met and the water thus produced is shown to be suitable for the application in which the use of such water is specified.

Type II reactive water will be prepared by distillation with a distillation designed to produce a distillate with a conductivity of less than 298 µS/cm at 25 K (1,0°C). If purity cannot be achieved with a single distillation, ion exchange, distillation or reverse osmosis and organic adsorption may be required prior to distillation. Type II reactive water may be produced by alternative technologies as long as appropriate component specifications are met and the water thus produced is shown to be suitable for the application in which the use of such water is specified.

Type III reagent water will be prepared by distillation, ion exchange, continuous electrodeionization, reverse osmosis or a combination of these and then polished with a 0,45 µm membrane filter. Type III reactive water may be produced by alternative technologies as long as appropriate component specifications are met and the water thus produced is shown to be suitable for the application in which the use of such water is specified.

Type IV grade reactive water can be prepared by distillation, ion exchange, continuous electrodeionization, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, or a combination of these. Type IV reactive water may be produced by alternative technologies as long as appropriate component specifications are met and the water thus produced is shown to be suitable for the application in which the use of such water is specified.

Values stated in SI units should be accepted as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.

This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.
