ASTM D2007 Clay-Gel Absorption Chromatographic - Test for Characteristic Groups in Petroleum Derived Oils

This standard specifies a procedure for classifying hydrocarbon species of oil samples with an initial boiling point of at least 260 °C (500 °F) into polar compounds, aromatics and saturated substances and recovering representative fractions of these species.

This classification is used for specification purposes in rubber expander and processing oils.

This test method is not directly applicable to oils with more than 0,1% by mass insoluble in pentane. Such oils can be analyzed after removal of these materials, but the sensitivity is reduced.
