ASTM D6055 Test

ASTM D6055 Standard Test Methods for Mechanical Handling of Combined Loads and Large Transport Crates and Crates

The purpose of the ASTM D6055 shipping container test is to determine the unit loads, large cases and their integrity. The standard evaluates the ability of the ingredients to withstand normal use using mechanical handling equipment. This test standard is not designed for separate drums or palletized drums.

ASTM D6055 Test

An ASTM-D-6055 test lab should be able to provide the test using one of the following seven test methods:

  • Test Method A: Forklift Use. This method is used to test the transport unit's ability to withstand the repeated operations of a fork truck. When performing the forklift transport test, use a real forklift with fork attachment to lift the transport unit. The lifting tool and blade (s) should be able to handle the size and quantity of products according to the current application.
  • Test Method B: Core Lift Test. Test method B is used or lifted with the paddle lift attachment to determine the ability of the case or the transport unit to withstand repeated lifting and handling. When performing the paddle lift test, use a real lift truck with a paddle lift attachment to lift the transport unit under the lift wing. The lifting tool and blade (s) should be able to lift the size and quantity of products according to the current application.
  • Test Method C: Clamp Using Test. This method is used for lifting with a hydraulic clamp attachment. This determines the ability of the transport unit to withstand the clamping process, which consists of repeated side clamping and lifting operations. When performing the clamp transport test, use a real forklift with the appropriate load clamping device to lift the transport unit. By using a load cell (s) or other suitable device, it will be provided to measure the clamp force between the rollers.
  • Test Method D: Push-Pull Handling Test. The push-pull handling test determines the ability of a combined load on a sliding layer to withstand repeated processing with this test method. When performing the push-pull test, use a real lift truck with the appropriate gripper jaw to pull the load onto the load plate with the slip sheet claw. Alternatively, any suitable pulling device equipped with a gripper jaw can be used.
  • Test Method E: Grabhook Test. This test method uses grahohooks to determine the ability of the shipping unit to withstand the horizontal pressures of the grabhooks. When lifting the case or crate with grabhooks or sling, a crane with grabhooks or straps is the simplest and easiest, but the test can be done with a fight or by lifting a case or crate with jacks and placing it on supported grabhooks or hangers with a kind of cage.
  • Test Method F: Sling Tests. The method is used to lift the transport unit with wire rope, cable or woven fiber slings to determine the ability of the hangers to withstand compression.

Additional test methods can be used for mechanical handling and rough handling testing of combined loads and large bags and cases. These may include bevel impact tests described in Test Method D 880 and horizontal impact tests described in Test Method D 4003.
