This test method covers a procedure for determining the ability of a coating film and substrate to resist splintering, cracking, or chipping when the film and substrate are impacted beyond their original shape.
This test method does not measure impact resistance, but another test method for flexibility, test methods use rapid impact to develop the D522. All problems with time variables are eliminated in mandrel tests, as the effect of the coating is almost instantaneous.
