ASTM B845 Mixed Flowing Gas (MFG) Tests for Electrical Contacts

The MFG tests described in this standard are designed to accelerate abrasive degradation processes. These accelerations are designed to degrade in the intended application environment of the device under test in a much shorter time than would be expected for such operations.

Application environments can continually change from benign to aggressively corrosive. Connectors and contacts in closed electronic cabinets may be affected by an environment of different severity than the environment outside such cabinets. In general, indoor environments are different from outdoor environments.

As discrete applications of specific corrosive conditions, the MFG tests described here cannot represent all possible application environments. It is the test specifier's responsibility to ensure that a particular test condition conforms to the determinant's application condition. The MFG tests described here are not designed to replicate the original intended application environment of the device under test.
