ASTM D5423 Standard Test for Laboratory Furnaces with Forced Convection for Evaluation of Electrical Insulation

This specification covers forced convection ventilated electrically heated ovens operating in all or part of the ambient temperature range from 20°C to 50°C and used for thermal endurance assessment of electrical insulating materials.

The specification requirements for Type I furnaces are based on and technically the same as IEC Publication 216-4-1. The requirements for Type II furnaces are basically the same as those of specification D 2436. This specification and a related test method, D5374, superseded Specification D 2436.

Furnaces within this specification are primarily for thermal endurance assessment, but can also be used wherever their characteristics are suitable for other applications.
