There are two recommended test methods for this standard. These:

  • Test Method A: Free fall package drop tester
  • Test Method B: shock tester

Any of these methods can be used. However, it is important to note that they will not necessarily produce the same results. The tests will measure the accelerations transmitted to the test block when the package is subjected to drops or shocks.

The test is useful in determining the protective capacity of foam-in-situ packaging material. The method involves using plastic film, foam, and the box usually used for packaging.

It is very important to record all the data related to the physical test sample. Samples must be of representative quality in order to be an indicator of field performance. It is recommended to rest the samples for at least 24 hours before testing. This ensures that the foam has the chance to harden and stabilize after pouring into the packaging.
