This test method includes fluoride, chloride, nitrite, ortho-chemically quenched ion chromatography and phosphate, bromide, nitrate and sulfate ions in water.
Concentrations as low as 0,01 mg/L have been determined in a single laboratory study, depending on the anions to be quantified. Approximate detection limits can be reached using a 50 µL sample volume cycle and a full scale sensitivity of 3 µS/cm. If lower detection levels are required, sensitivity can be improved using a lower scale setting (< 3 µS/cm) or a larger sample injection cycle (> 100 µL). The analyst must ensure optimum device performance to maintain a stable baseline at more precise conductivity full-scale settings.
The upper limit of this test method depends on the total anion concentration and can be determined experimentally. These limits can be expanded using appropriate dilution or a smaller injection volume.
The use of alternative separator columns and eluents may allow the identification of additional anions such as formate or citrate. This is not the subject of this test method.
