ASTM E139 Test for Creep, Creep-Fracture, and Stress-Fracture of Metallic Materials

This standard covers the determination of the amount of deformation as a function of time (creep test) and for materials under constant tensile loads measuring the time for fracture to occur when sufficient load is present (rupture test).

It also includes the basic requirements for test equipment. Reference should be made to Section 9 for information to assist in determining the number and duration of tests required. 1.2 These test methods list information that should be included in test reports. The aim is to ensure that all useful and readily available information is communicated to the interested parties.

Tests on notched specimens are not included. These tests are given in Application E 292. Tests under rapid heating or short time conditions are not included. Applications for such tests are given in Application E21 and Application E150.
