ASTM D751 Standard Test Methods for Coated Fabrics

This standard covers, but is not limited to, rubber-coated fabrics, namely tarpaulins, raincoats and similar products.

Coated fabrics and rubber products made from coated fabrics are important trade items and adequate testing methods must be in place to ensure the quality of these products. This standard provides this testing capability. A coated fabric is a material having at least one textile layer and one polymeric material layer. Examples would be linoleum, outerwear and a raincoat.

ASTM D751 specifies a testing machine that consists of three main parts:

• filtration mechanism;
• clamps for holding samples;
• Load and elongation recording mechanisms.
