Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Coatings

Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Coatings

ASTM D882 Test

This test method involves determining the tensile properties of plastics in the form of films and films (from 1.0 mm (0.04 inch) thick). The film is defined in Terminology D883 as an optional term for layering with a nominal thickness of not more than 0.25 mm (0.010 inch).

The tensile properties of 1.0 mm (0.04 inch) or thicker plastics will be determined according to Test Method D638. This test method can be used to test all plastics within the described thickness range and the capacity of the machine used. Specimen elongation can be measured by clutch separation, extension indicators, or displacement of gauge marks.

The procedure for determining the elastic stress modulus is included at a stress rate. Module determination is generally based on the use of clutch separation as a measure of extension; however, the request to use extensometers is recognized and the provision for the use of such instrumentation is included in the procedure.

The test data obtained with this test method are suitable and suitable for use in engineering design. Values stated in SI units will be accepted as standard. Values in parentheses are for information purposes only.

This standard is not intended to address all safety concerns, if any, related to its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of legal restrictions before use.

Note: The above information is taken directly from the scope of the test method published in ASTM D882.
