This standard covers flexible closed-cell or non-interconnected cellular products whose elastomer content is predominantly poly(vinyl chloride) or its copolymers. Materials will be produced in sheet, strip, molded or simple custom shapes.
In case of conflict between the provisions of this standard and the detailed specifications or test methods of a particular product, the latter shall take precedence.
References to closed cell poly(vinyl chloride) test methods contained herein will specifically indicate the specific test or tests required and will not refer to these test methods as a whole.
Closed cell vinyl provided under this standard shall be manufactured from poly(vinyl chloride) or copolymers thereof, with added composite components of such a nature and quality that the finished product will comply with the specification requirements. While choice in the use of materials is permitted by the manufacturer, it is not intended to imply that different materials are equivalent in all physical properties.
Any features other than those specified in this standard that may be desired for specific applications will be stated in the product specifications as they may affect the selection of the type of poly(vinyl chloride) or other components used. All materials and workmanship shall conform to good commercial practices and the resulting product shall be free from defects affecting serviceability.
Due to production conditions, the material may need to be replaced or repaired. Such repaired or replaced material shall be acceptable under this specification provided that the material used in such repairs or replacements is of the same composition and quality as the original product and such changes do not affect serviceability, size and shape beyond specified tolerances.
