ASTM E1316 Standard Terminology for Nondestructive Testing

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ASTM E1316 standard. The ASTM E1316 standard defines the terminology used in the standards prepared by the E07 Nondestructive Testing Committee. These non-destructive testing (NDT) methods include: acoustic emission, electromagnetic testing, gamma and X-radiology, leak testing, liquid penetrating testing, magnetic particle testing, neutron radiology and measurement, ultrasonic testing, and other technical methods.

ASTM E1316 Standard Terminology for Nondestructive Testing

The E07 Committee recognizes that the terms inspection, test and inspection are commonly used synonymously in non-destructive testing. For uniformity and consistency in E07 nondestructive testing standards, the E07 Committee encourages the use of the terms inspection or inspection and their derivatives when describing the application of nondestructive testing methods. In a given standard, inspection or inspection will be used consistently throughout the document.

Similarly, E07 encourages the use of the term test and its derivatives when referring to knowledge of a non-destructive testing method. However, such as measurements that produce a numerical result (for example, when using the leak test method to perform a leak test on a component or an ultrasonic velocity measurement). In addition to the NDT method i.e. Radiological Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT) etc. The term test should be used when referring to it. (Example: Radiological Testing (RT) is often used to examine material to detect internal discontinuities.)

  • Nondestructive testing methods are commonly used for the inspection of materials and components.
The E07 Nondestructive Testing Committee has produced many documents to promote the uniform use of NDT methods applied to inspect or inspect materials and components.
  • Radiological Testing (RT) is often used to examine material to detect internal discontinuities.
  • Magnetic Particle Test (MT), Liquid Penetrant Test (PT), and Visual Test (VT) are often used to inspect the surface of a component.
  • The Bubble Leak Test (BLT) method is sometimes used to leak test a pressure-containing component to detect leaks.
  • A guideline for NDT of additively fabricated materials will describe several methods, but one application will focus on a single inspection method.

When a non-destructive inspection or inspection produces an indicator, the indicator is subject to interpretation as incorrect, irrelevant, or relevant. If construed as relevant, any subsequent consideration required will result in a decision to accept or reject the material. All words used in the chart are defined separately in section A, with the exception of accepting and rejecting, which preserves the meaning found in most dictionaries.

This international standard has been developed in accordance with the internationally accepted principles of standardization set out in the Resolution on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

Our organization, EUROLAB, provides standard terminology services for non-destructive testing within the framework of national and international standards, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies. Provides testing services within the scope of ASTM E1316 standard.
