ASTM C351 Test for Average Specific Heat of Thermal Insulation

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ASTM C351 testing. This standard covers the determination of the average specific heat of thermal insulation materials.

ASTM C351 Test for Average Specific Heat of Thermal Insulation

The materials should be essentially homogeneous and consist of solid matter.

This test method uses the classical mixing method. This provides simpler procedures and apparatus than those commonly used in scientific calorimetry, an accuracy sufficient for most thermal insulation purposes, and a degree of precision repeatable by laboratory technicians of average skill. Although this test method was developed for testing thermal insulations, it can be easily adapted to measure the specific heats of other materials.

The test procedure provides an average temperature of about 60°C (temperature range of 100 to 20°C) using water as the calorimetric fluid. The temperature range can be changed as desired by changing other calorimetric fluids.

Values stated in SI units will be accepted as standard.

This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.
