This test method allows measuring the shrinkage of thermosetting plastics from their molds both initially (within 16 to 72 hours after molding) and after aging (after extrusion at elevated temperatures).

This method will give comparable data based on standard samples and cannot predict absolute values ​​in real molded parts with varying flow paths, wall thicknesses, pressure gradients and process conditions. Differences in die shrinkage are often observed between specimen geometries described in this test method.

Initial shrinkage information of plastics is important for making molds, and post-molding shrinkage information is important to determine the suitability of the molding material for the production of thermosetting plastic components of the right sizes.
