ASTM D8110 Standard Test for Elemental Analysis of Distillates by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)

This test method uses metallo-organic standards (organometallic or organo-soluble metal complex) for calibration and does not claim to quantify insoluble particles. Analytical results are dependent on particle size and poor results are obtained for particles larger than a few micrometers because these particles may settle in the sample cup and not be transported effectively through the sample delivery system.

Elements in concentrations above the upper limit of the calibration curves can be determined by additional, appropriate dilutions and without any compromise in sensitivity.
