This dynamic shake flask test was developed for routine quality control and screening testing to overcome the difficulties of using conventional antimicrobial testing methods to evaluate substrate-bound antimicrobials.
These challenges include maintaining contact of the inoculum with the treated surface (as in AATCC 100), flexibility of retrieval at different contact times, use of inappropriately applied static conditions (as in AATCC 147), precision and repeatability.
This test method allows for the ability to evaluate many different types of treated substrates and a wide variety of microorganisms.
The processed substrates used in this test method can be subjected to a wide variety of physical/chemical stresses or manipulations, allowing for the versatility of testing the effect of contamination from hard water, proteins, blood, serum, various chemicals and the like.
This test method should only be performed by persons trained in microbiological techniques.
