ASTM D7181 Triaxial Compression Test with Consolidated Drainage for Soils

With its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, EUROLAB provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ASTM D7181 testing. This test method involves determining the strength and stress-strain relationships of a cylindrical sample of undisturbed or hydrated soil. Samples are consolidated and compacted by drainage at a constant axial deformation rate (strain controlled).

ASTM D7181 Triaxial Compression Test with Consolidated Drainage for Soils

This test method allows calculation of principal stresses and axial compression by measuring axial load, axial deformation and volumetric changes.

This test method provides useful data in determining strength and deformation properties such as Mohr strength envelopes. Generally, three specimens are tested at different effective consolidation stresses to define an envelope of strength. The stresses should be specified by the engineer requesting the test. For each consolidation stress it is necessary to test on a new sample.

Identifying envelopes of strength and developing relationships to aid in the interpretation and evaluation of test results is beyond the scope of this test method and should be performed by a qualified, experienced professional.

The procedures used in this standard to specify how data is collected, calculated or recorded are considered industry standard. In addition, they often represent important digits that need to be hidden. The procedures used do not take into account material variations, the purpose for which the data was obtained, special-purpose studies or any other considerations for the user's purposes; and it is common practice to increase or decrease the significant digits of the reported data commensurate with these considerations. It is beyond the scope of this test standard to consider important steps used in analysis methods for engineering design.

Values stated in SI units should be accepted as standard. The inch-pound units in parentheses are mathematical conversions that are provided for informational purposes only and are not considered standard. Reporting test results in units other than SI will not be considered non-compliance with this test method.

This standard may include hazardous materials, processes and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.
