The test method described is for tests with constant temperature and humidity throughout the sample. Persons interested in performing air leak tests on units that are subject to various temperature differences throughout the sample should refer to Test method E1424.
This laboratory procedure can be applied to exterior windows, skylights, curtain walls and doors and is intended to measure installation-related leaks only, not installation. The test method can be adapted for the latter purpose.
This test method is intended for laboratory use. Persons interested in performing field air leak tests on installed units should refer to Test Method E783.
Persons using this procedure should be knowledgeable in the fields of fluid mechanics, instrumentation applications, and have a general understanding of window opening products and components.
Values stated in SI units or inch-pound units will be considered standard separately. The values specified in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure compliance with the standard, each system should be used independently of the other and the values obtained from the two systems should not be combined.
