This test method is applicable to guardrail systems and rails whose main structural components are made of metal and secondary components made of metal or other materials such as wood, plastic and glass.
The test method described can be used to determine whether the anchoring of permanent metal guardrail systems and rails meets the expected performance requirements.
Specifically, this test method covers procedures for determining the static stress, shear and moment resistance of anchors for permanent metal railing systems and rails in structural members and related products made of concrete, masonry, wood and metal.
In this test method, possible deterioration of anchor systems caused by adverse environmental conditions is not taken into account. Performance of special tests covering this aspect may be desirable. If the calculations make it possible to provide the necessary information, tests can be used for verification purposes.
