ASTM F1115 Standard Test Method for Determining Carbon Dioxide Loss of Beverage Containers

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ASTM F1115 standard. The ASTM F1115 standard is to determine the loss of carbon dioxide (CO2) from plastic beverage containers after a specified storage period. Factors contributing to this pressure loss are volume expansion and the gas transport characteristics of the package, including permeability and leakage.

In this test method, two procedures, A and B, are outlined. Procedure A is most commonly used for the development of various beverage container designs to determine the functional properties of the package in relation to shelf life. Procedure B is recommended for use in beverage filling operations as a quality control tool in maintaining the desired CO2 fill pressure.

CO5.1.1 Procedure A involves the use of precision pressure and temperature monitoring equipment where a high degree of accuracy is required, for example a micro pressure transducer and thermocouple to measure the pressure and temperature of the package in a closed system. Alternatively, this procedure can use bottles closed with roll-on aluminum caps containing rubber pods.

The septum is punctured with a hypodermic needle attached to a pressure transducer to obtain pressure readings. This procedure should be limited to laboratories used in such analytical testing.

Because of the simplicity of the technique, Procedure B is more commonly used when measuring the carbonation level of the package. A simple Manual pressure assembly or Automatic CO1.1 The purpose of this test method is to determine the loss of carbon dioxide (CO2) from plastic beverage containers after a specified storage period.

This standard does not purport to address all safety issues, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices prior to use and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions.

Our organization, EUROLAB, provides standard test method services to determine the carbon dioxide loss of beverage containers, within the framework of national and international standards, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies. Provides testing services within the scope of ASTM F1115 standard.
