This standard covers the tensile testing of calcium phosphate and metallic porous coatings that adhere to dense metal surfaces at ambient temperatures. Evaluates the degree of adhesion of coatings to substrates or the internal cohesion of a coating at tension normal to the surface plane.
Coatings can be applied using a variety of methods, including but not limited to plasma spraying and sintering. Information developed using this standard may be useful for certain quality control and design purposes.
Process variables such as pre-coating substrate preparation, surface texture, coating technique variables or post-coating heat treatment variables can have a significant impact on the results of the tensile test. The sample evaluated should be representative of the actual end-use coating.
