This standard specifies known methods for testing mattress inner springs, box springs and finished mattresses or mattress assemblies, or both, to ensure uniformity of results.
This standard applies to unfloored foundations, finished foundations, and mattress constructions, including but not limited to interior springs, air chambers, and foam cores, as well as non-floor mattress core units, box-spring and masonry foundations.
Durability test, impact test and hardness retention test require surface deformation tiled specimens. Hardness testing can be performed on non-upholstered components, internal spring units and flexible box springs, or on finished mattresses or mattress sets. If a mattress core or an unfloored foundation is considered, a standard flooring package is specified. This standard is designed for use in newly manufactured products.
