The ASTM F1776 standard applies to eye protection devices designed for use by aintball sport players that minimize or significantly reduce eye and adnexal injury from impact and puncture of paintballs.
The field of view, refractive tolerances, astigmatism, power imbalance, prism imbalance, vertical imbalance, horizontal imbalances, light transmittance, haze, optical quality and physical lens defects of eye protection devices will be tested to meet stipulated requirements.
This specification applies to eye, face and head, or both protective devices designed for use by paintball sport players that minimize or significantly reduce injury to the eye, face and head from the impact or penetration of paintball.
EHPDs inherently provide three types of protection. The first type of protection is for the eyes and eye adnexa and is not mandatory for other parts of the face or head. The second type of protection provides protection for the ears and face. The third type of coverage adds cranial coverage in addition to that provided for types II and III.
This specification does not limit the use of eyeglasses or contact lenses when used with the EHPD. Values stated in SI units will be accepted as standard. Values in parentheses are for informational purposes only.
